Initially set up as a social association (Chhetri Samaj UK) by a small number of like minded retired Gurkha personnel with the aim of promoting Nepalese/Chhetri culture and heritage in the UK, the association has evolved considerably since its inception in 2007, both in its outlook and remit. The intent orginally was to remove social isolation and provide mental health support to its members by organising social gatherings, but in recent years the association has increasingly taken on the added responsibility of providing welfare support to its members, thus becoming more of a charity in its makeup. It has also assumed a charitable purpose of acknowledging and rewarding notable achievements in the field of education, thereby encouraging the younger generations to excel in their chosen fields for the benefit of the society as a whole. The new name – Kshetri Welfare Society UK (KWSUK) – more accurately reflects its vision and mission.
Together, we can create lasting change and bring hope to those who need it most.
